Overview:

This project presents the development of a web application of Artificial Intelligence in health and physical education. The platform facilitates the management of clients, individual and group training sessions, scheduling, physical assessments and the creation of personalized workout plans.

The Problem

During our initial research and usability testing with personal trainers, a clear pain point emerged: professionals struggled to find integrated tools that truly their needs, especially regarding physical assessments. They needed a solution that could not only organize their schedule but also optimize their daily workflow and assist in making data-driven decisions for their client’s health.

The Solution

An all-in-one management platform integrated with AI. To optimize time and improve decision-making, the system uses the Random Forest algorithm. By implementing regression models to analyze body measurements and classification models to categorize the Body Mass Index (BMI), the AI directly contributes to recommending exercises. This generates automated data-driven prescriptions, ensuring a more efficient, personalized and safe tracking of the client’s progress.

The Creative and Development Process

1. Empathizing and User Research

We started by closely studying existing management applications, how they work and how they are built. More importantly, we conducted interviews and usability testes with actual personal trainers to understand what data points were essential for their daily workflow.

2. Designing the Interface

Based on the research, I prototyped the solution in Figma, focusing on a clean, intuitive and highly functional interface.

  • The Dashboard: We created a main hub highlighting key information at a glance, allowing trainers to easily navigate between client management and class schedules.
  • Optimizing Physical Assessments: To solve the main pain point discovered during research, we designed a specific asssessment screen featuring quick-view cards with essential info, such as BMI and ideal weight. This visual hierarchy drastically improved the usability and workflow for the trainers.

3. AI Integration and Logic

As a developer on the team, bringing the design to life meant connecting the front-end experience with complex back-end logic. The Random Forest algorithm was trained to process the inputs from the physical assessment forms (which we carefuly curated with the trainers) to output highly tailored workout recommendations.

Results and Takeaways

This project was an incredible experience that allowed me to merge my Computer Science background with my passion for Product Design. By listening directly to the end-users (personal trainers), we were able to deliver a digital product that doesn’t just store data, but actively works alongside the professional to provide a safe and highly personalized experience for their students.
